The state of Delaware Department of Public Safety has certain regulations that must be met before one can work in the security sector. There are personal and training requirements in order to qualify for the unarmed and armed guard licenses.

Unarmed Security Guard Requirements in Delaware

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • The applicant must possess a high school diploma or the equivalency.
  • The applicant must submit to drug testing.
  • A complete background check will be done during application.
  • Fingerprinting must be submitted.
  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or registered resident alien.
  • The applicant must have no prior felony convictions or violent misdemeanors.
  • The applicant must successfully complete a 16 hour state certified training course prior to application.

Armed Security Guard Requirements in Delaware

  • The applicant must be at least 21 years old.
  • The applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalency.
  • The applicant must provide proof of work in the U.S.
  • The applicant must submit fingerprinting.
  • The applicant must submit to an FBI style background check.
  • The applicant must submit drug testing.
  • The applicant must complete state specified training in security and weapons training at a state certified facility must be completed before application.
  • The applicant must have no prior felony convictions or violent misdemeanors.
