In the State of South Dakota, there are no regulations or fees to become a security guard. There are only a few basic requirements to be met. Those who wish to become a security guard in South Dakota must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • not have been convicted of a felony, any sexual offense, or a crime that would question the honesty and integrity of the person

Armed Security Guard Requirements in South Dakota

While there are no regulations to becoming an armed security guard, there may be requirements for carrying firearms in the Mount Rushmore State, which varies by city. There are also some basic requirements to meet that may better your chances of landing an armed security guard job. You should:

  • be at least 21 years old
  • hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien
  • have no convictions or history of drug or alcohol use
  • have not been convicted of fraud
  • submit to fingerprinting
  • hold a South Dakota state driver’s license
